GOLF FITNESS

Assess Your Body.

Develop Your Capacity.

Perform Your Best.

Golf performance is influenced by more than the golf swing. Mobility, stability, strength, power, balance, endurance, and movement quality can all influence what a golfer is physically capable of doing. Shoot For Par begins by assessing those capabilities, identifying limitations, and developing an individualized training strategy designed around the golfer rather than forcing the golfer into a predetermined program.

Golf Fitness: Develop the Golfer, Not Just the Swing.

A golf swing can only use the physical capabilities the golfer possesses. Shoot For Par approaches golf fitness by first identifying the golfer’s current mobility, stability, strength, power, balance, endurance, and movement capabilities. Training is then developed around the individual’s needs, goals, and current capabilities.
Rather than treating fitness as a separate activity from golf performance, physical development becomes part of a larger process: Assess what the golfer can currently do. Develop capabilities that are limiting performance. Train those capabilities progressively. Then measure how effectively they transfer to performance. The objective is not simply to make a golfer stronger. The objective is to build the physical capacity necessary to move efficiently, tolerate the demands of the game, produce force when needed, and continue playing well over time.

Five Training Phases

One Individual Strategy.

Shoot For Par uses progressive exercise programming to develop different physical capabilities based on what the golfer needs. These five training phases provide different training emphases rather than a one-size-fits-all pathway. Screening results, goals, training history, physical capabilities, and response to training help determine where emphasis should be placed and when progression is appropriate.

Phase 1-Stabilization Endurance

Golf Fitness
Duration: Up to 4-6 Weeks

Build Control Before Adding Load

In Phase 1, Stabilization Endurance, the focus for golfers is on improving joint stability, balance, muscular endurance, and overall coordination. This prepares the body for more intense phases by establishing a solid foundation, reducing the risk of injury, and enhancing neuromuscular control. Working on these areas helps golfers maintain proper posture and control during their swings. This is the crucial foundation by which all other levels will rest upon.

Golf Fitness Takeaways

  • Improving Joint Stability
  • Improving Balance
  • Boosting Muscular Endurance
  • Enhancing Overall Coordination-Slow Controlled Movements without Load

Phase 2-Strength Endurance

Shoot For Par
Duration: Up to 4-6 Weeks

Maintain Control While Increasing Demand

In Phase Two, Strength Endurance, the focus shifts to enhancing the ability to maintain force production over time. This helps golfers improve their muscular endurance and overall performance on the course, building upon the foundation set in Phase One. It’s a pivotal phase for developing the strength and endurance needed for a powerful and consistent golf swing. This phase will bridge the gap between the foundation of Phase 1 with the muscular development of Phase 3.

Golf Fitness Takeaways

  • Enhancing the Ability to Maintain Force Production Over Time
  • Enhancing Muscular Endurance
  • Enhancing Overall Coordination-Slow Controlled Movements with Load

Phase 3-Muscular Development

Shoot For Par
Duration: Up to 4-6 Weeks

Build the Capacity to Produce Force

In Phase Three, Muscular Development, also known as Hypertrophy, the focus is on increasing muscle size and strength. This phase is crucial for golfers as it enhances power and performance, translating into stronger swings and better control on the golf course. It builds upon the endurance gained in earlier phases. This phase integrates with the previous phases emphasizing its role in providing power and control in the golf swing.

Golf Fitness Takeaways

  • Increasing Muscle Size & Strength
  • Enhancing Power & Performance
  • Integrating Power & Control with Movement on All Three Planes of Motion: Frontal, Sagittal, & Transverse.

Phase 4-Maximal Strength

Shoot For Par
Duration: Up to 4-6 Weeks

Increase Force-Producing Capacity

In Phase Four, Maximal Strength, it is all about lifting heavy to boost the maximum force your muscles can generate. It’s crucial for golfers to generate more power in their swings and improve overall performance. This phase typically lasts four to six weeks, focusing on low reps and high resistance. Proper recovery and monitoring progress are crucial in this phase to ensure continued growth and adaptation. It’s essential for optimizing performance and preventing injuries.

Golf Fitness Takeaways

  • Increased Muscle Strength for Golf Swings
  • Improved Swing Speed
  • Enhanced Power
  • Better Control & Stability
  • Improved Endurance
  • Enhanced Core Strength
  • Improved Neuromuscular Coordination

Phase 5-Power

Shoot For Par
Duration: Up to 4-6 Weeks

Turn Strength Into Speed

In Phase Five, Power, it’s about converting that strength into explosive movements. This phase is key for golfers to add speed and power to their swings, enhancing overall performance on the course. This phase also lasts around four to six weeks, focusing on explosive, high-velocity movements.

As golfers begin to reach a plateau in their current training, SuperSpeed Golf can be integrated to introduce an additional speed-development stimulus and complement the strength and power developed throughout the program.

This tool is key to converting maximal strength into explosive power, directly enhancing the speed and distance of your drives. As you implement this training, focus on maintaining the explosive high-velocity movements that characterize this phase, ensuring you’re capitalizing on the strength gains to maximize your performance on the course.

Golf Fitness Takeaways

  • Increased Explosive Strength
  • Faster Swing Speed for More Power
  • Better Energy Transfer & Efficiency
  • Enhanced Core Stability
  • Improved Neuromuscular Coordination
  • Enhanced Recovery Times
  • Reduced Risk of Injury
  • Greater Flexibility
  • Fine Tuned Motor Skills
  • Better Mental Focus
  • Increased Stamina
  • Improved Balance
  • Refined Swing Timing
  • Optimizing Energy Management
  • Enhanced Adaptability in Course Management

Every exercise should have a purpose. Every progression should address a capability. Every training phase should contribute to the golfer’s larger objective. Shoot For Par combines screening, exercise programming, golf-specific performance knowledge, and continued reassessment to develop training around the individual rather than around a generic workout.
