Decisions Decide Defeat
Hole #2: No guts, no glory, right? Here is a hole that should scream danger at first glance. Almost all golfers who have their ego in tact will recognize that a slice over the water is a perfect shot shape for this hole. I would caution that this could work out in your favor, but then again, it may not.
The issue is in fact the water. In most slices, the body and mind are committed to pulling out hard left, which causes the slice in the first place. Now, with water being left, there is a caution in your swing to not commit as hard left as you’re used to. This in turn, will cause a ball flight that may not have the appropriate tilt in the spin axis, causing a straight pull into the water. So, if red is your intended shot, it certainly requires commitment.
I favor the other two shot shapes personally, as whatever danger they acquire is less than the red. The green conservative line will ensure a long iron second shot, so if you’re weak in that area of your game, then practice the choice of a longer drive off of the tee box.
